What is Oracle Agile PLM?

Oracle Agile PLM is a suite of software applications aimed at managing the entire lifecycle of a product. Agile PLM manages product:

  • Data
  • Quality
  • Design
  • Regulations

Furthermore, Agile PLM includes project management tools to plan, track, and manage product development projects. Lastly, Agile PLM enables collaboration by containing Manufacturing Process Management (MPM) features which facilitate collaboration between engineers and manufacturers.

Let’s compare some of the native features of the two PLM systems:

Native Tools

Ease of use

Quality of support

Product Direction

Cost

Windchill has native CAD integration, allowing users to access and manage CAD files directly within Windchill, including version control, lifecycle management, and change management.

Windchill also provides a native viewer, enabling users to view or markup any data stored in Windchill

Lastly, Windchill contains a vault-like storage system, offering version control, revision history, and access control.

Windchill is often described as intuitive, as it has efficient navigation tools that make it easy to use.

Additionally, Windchill offers a wide range of configuration options that meet unique business needs.

It also provides data migration tools and customizable migration workflows that enable organizations to migrate data efficiently, accurately, and securely.

PTC offers extensive customer support services and provides other online resources such as training programs to aid their customers.
PTC’s website has many resources on Windchill, including videos, PowerPoints, articles, and an easy-to-follow roadmap.
Windchill is a product-centric software.

It supports continuous improvement with its closed-loop architecture.

This architecture allows it to collect data and utilize the insights to manage your product more efficiently.

PTC offers different packages based on the level of capability needed. You can see more of that here.

This allows businesses to choose which tier they desire, optimizing their cost-efficiency.

Agile PLM has no native viewer.

Agile PLM has a storage system, but it is not referred to as a "vault" in the same way as other PDM/PLM systems.

Some criticisms of Agile PLM describe it as difficult to navigate and claim it has frequent time-consuming updates that interrupt work days.

Agile PLM also often has issues migrating to Oracle Cloud due to version incompatibility and data synchronization issues.

Oracle has a customer support team and online tutorials to help their customers troubleshoot issues.
According to customer ratings on G2 Oracle’s roadmap is difficult to follow compared to Windchill’s.
Agile PLM is more manufacturing-centric.

It does not have the closed-loop architecture to improve upon itself and your product.

Agile PLM does not have multiple packages at this time.

Their pricing model is one-size-fits-all.

It can be costly compared to other PLM solutions with the same features.

Why We Recommend PTC Windchill

In addition to the comparison above, Windchill has a multitude of reasons why it is one of the leading PLM software on the market.

  2. Secondly, it provides Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that allow organizations to develop custom integrations for their specific needs.
  3. Furthermore, Windchill provides easy-to-use visualization tools, empowering team members to better understand each other and communicate more effectively.
  4. Additionally, Windchill provides collaboration workspaces for team members and integrates with popular tools like Microsoft Teams.
  5. Lastly, Windchill has great reviews. Especially when you analyze the G2 reviews of these 2 products, in fact, stating that “Reviewers felt that PTC Windchill meets the needs of their business better than Oracle Agile.”
