On Monday, September 18th, Atlassian announced it would be slightly increasing prices for its Cloud products and setting limits on the automation rules per type of paid cloud plan. Here’s a quick summary of the Atlassian Cloud price changes due to take effect October 18th 2023 PT (unless a revised announcement follows):

  • Atlassian Cloud list prices are increasing on average by 5% across Standard, Premium, and Enterprise plans for Jira Software and Confluence.
  • For more than 1000 users, Atlassian Access list prices will increase by 10%.
  • Jira Service Management prices will be increasing by 5-20% depending on several factors.

How Does The Atlassian Cloud Price Increase Affect My New or Current Quote?

  • For quotes generated between August 21st, 2023 PT – October 17th, 2023 PT, Atlassian is extending these on existing pricing until November 15th 2023 PT.  Renewal and downgrade quotes will not be impacted.

The quotes extension is intended to allow SPK and its Atlassian customers ample time and flexibility to plan for these future changes and budget adjustments.

For further details on how we are handling your specific quote extension, please contact your SPK representative.

Why Are Atlassian Cloud Prices Changing?

There are several reasons for the price increase for Atlassian products including:

  1. Improved Features and Functionality: For many years, Atlassian have added numerous features and functions to their  Cloud products. Many of which have not incurred a price increase. Atlassian have significantly invested in Cloud which is showcased in their core product features. This also includes acquisition integrations. For example, Mindville and Chart.io.
  2. Investment in Support and Reliability: Atlassian has made a huge investment in their Cloud platforms over the past five years. For example, increasing the functionality and features offered by the core cloud products, including Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Jira Work Management.
  3. Competing Products: Atlassian has always been one of the more affordable enterprise solutions in both the DevOps and ITSM space. If you review their competitors, Atlassian’s products are the same or better on a feature-for-feature basis. And the competitor offerings are more than double the price. Thus, Atlassian is ensuring it keeps pace with the value its competitors are providing so they can continue to invest in the ecosystem.

Atlassian Cloud Automation Rule Limits

On November 1st, 2023, Atlassian is implementing a new automation packaging model for all cloud Jira products. This includes Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Jira Work Management, Jira Product Discovery. Now, all product editions (free, standard, premium, and enterprise.) will have a fixed number of monthly automation rule limits. Atlassian won’t support any more unlimited single-project rules for automations. Also, Atlassian is removing the pooling of automation limits across Jira products. Each Jira product will have its own limit.

Why this change to automation packages? Atlassian has provided three reasons. First, clarity on the packaging model. Atlassian wanted the packaging rules to be easy to understand.  Second, Atlassian wanted to provide consistency across Jira and Confluence for automations to avoid confusion.  Lastly, Atlassian wants to ensure a solid foundation as they scale their Cloud platform, and a clear upgrade path is needed in order for clients to understand their costs. This model provides that for clients.

The below chart details the limits that will go into place on November 1st 2023.
