Steve Lundy is a computer systems analyst at SPK and Associates. He joined our team in 2014, but before joining our team, he worked at MKS, (now acquired by PTC) as a customer solutions engineer for 3 years. He has nearly 25 years of experience working with ticketing systems. Tools he frequently works with are Jira, Windchill RV&S, and Codebeamer. His main responsibility is providing support to customers to help them achieve application management and workflow success.

My Role at SPK

I do several things in this role, so my day-to-day work is constantly changing. I do a lot of application work with customers so I work frequently with PTC‘s  Windchill RV&S and Codebeamer. I also commonly work with Atlassian products which involves helping customers change their workflows or manage their environment. Additionally, I also do server-to-cloud migrations, often working with Atlassian Cloud. Lastly, I am often assigned as the technical subject matter expert for customers to contact so I am on customer-facing-pre-sales calls often.

What Motivates Me

Getting to work with products I enjoy with many different customers is what motivates me. I enjoy the shorter scope of a lot of the projects I get to work on. Typically I have projects that take a few months to complete and I enjoy working with customers on a professional level in that time. I enjoy the constant change of new customers and projects coming and going.

Career Advice

My best advice for individuals working in this industry is technology is always changing and evolving, so be prepared to adapt to it. Additionally, for individuals who work in regulated industries: be prepared for the unique challenges that come with it such as ensuring everything is well-defined. Oftentimes you are working with life-altering technologies such as medical devices, so it’s important to get everything right. Moreover, make sure your customers can trust you to get it right as customer relationships are vital to your success.

The best advice I’ve ever received is to try to learn something new from every project. A close second is to not let emotions rule your work, whether they are yours or a client’s. Validating your customer’s feelings with active listening ensures better communication and helps you keep composure throughout the conversation.

Extracurriculars

In my free time, I enjoy traveling, camping, and getting out into nature. I even lived on the road for a year with my wife and 3 kids back in 2014.  I live in Canada, so for that year, we traveled all across the outside of the U.S., and then back across Canada.
